Asterisk Installation Fest and Conference

Please register using this form so we will have enough seats, installers, give-away items and meals for you. Registrants are eligible for a door prize.
This is a free, casual, open and friendly opportunity for Asterisk VOIP beginners and veterans to meet and share their goals, knowledge, and skills. Attendees can bring a computer and volunteers will install and configure a working Asterisk system on it.

There will be presentations addressing the following topics:
- Asterisk and VOIP - Past, Present and Future
- Getting Started with Asterisk for Personal Telephone Systems
- Asterisk for Small Office / Home Office (SOHO) Systems
- Asterisk Small Business Applications and Experiences
- Vendor Products and Services
The following Hands-On Demonstrations will be available:
- Network Configuration Issues for Asterisk and VOIP
- Basic Home or Small Office IP-PBX System
- IAX, SIP and PRI VoIP Trunking
- Video Telephony
Enjoy presentations from leadingVoIP organizations including Digium, Sangoma, PBX in a Flash, Snom, Aastra, Cbeyond, Aretta, Pika, IP Comms, Fonica, Centric Voice and VoiceRoute.
If you bring a PC for an installation of Asterisk, you do not need to bring a monitor, keyboard or mouse; however, here are the minimum hardware requirements:
- CPU = Pentium III 866 MHz or greater
- RAM = 512 MB or greater
- HD = 10 GB
- VIDEO = SVGA
- NIC = Ethernet 10Base-T
- CDROM or PXE boot.
Optional Hardware that you may bring includes but is not limited to:
- For interface to conventional telephone lines and telephone sets:
– Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) or
– Internal TDM Cards from Sangoma or Digium.
- SIP Telephone Set
Please be advised that all prexisting data on the computer’s hard drive will be erased. The volunteers will install a preconfigured variant of a PBX-in-a-Flash package with the Linux Operating System and Asterisk. We are not responsible for any damage to the computer or if during our efforts the computer fails or becomes unusable. You will be asked to sign a waiver to this effect when you drop-off your computer.
Due to parking limitations, a computer drop-off point will be available at the building entrance. Volunteers will take your computer to the meeting room while you park and return.
If you have an account with a SIP-VOIP provider, please bring that information (URL,Username,Secret/Password). If time permits, the volunteer will configure the system to connect to your service provider. We will make a test call to confirm the initial proper operation of your system.
